Lamar County Boasts New Drone

LAMAR COUNTY, Tex. (KXII) — A grant from the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality purchased a $13,000 drone for use by all Lamar County emergency personnel.

Paris fire chief Larry Wright says the drone is great resource because it can be used to view fires or storm damage from above when it is too dangerous to go on the ground.

“It’s a county-wide asset. In other words, if the Sheriff’s department needs it or police department needs it or we need it or a volunteer department needs it, they can call for it. But we’re keeping it in-house in the fire department as far as the training and the flying,” said Wright.

Chief Wright says the drone has so far been used by the sheriff’s office to assist deputies during pursuits. [Click for More]
