At the time this is posted there is not yet a perfect solution for providing illumination at night for an emergency scene or incident. Some light bars do exist but the weight and payload reduction makes them not practical for many emergency services UAS pilots.
Lume Cube makes smal 1.5 inch cubes that can putput 1,500 lumens at the highest setting.
They are rechargeable via a micro USB cable and weigh about 15 ounces when both are mounted.
I typically joke and describe the cubes as being very helpful for you to see the tree before you hit it at night but the reality is they can serve some good public safety uses on your UAS.
One drawback is the brackets that come with the Lume Cube pair is not wonderful for use on the DJI Matrice 210 I fly for the Wake Forest Fire Department.
However, I did locate a better set of inexpensive mounts to use. These mounts might be intended for a different use but they work amazingly well to support the Lume Cubs on the Matrice 210. On Amazon look at ChromLives Bike Clamp Bike Bracket Bicycle Mount Holder for Bluetooth Speakers / GoPro Hero / Action Cameras,w/ Tripod Bracket for Gopro. The pair at the time I’m writing this is only $7.95.
You can see the Lume Cubes in flight below.
Law enforcement pilots will see some possible good uses for these lights as a distraction tool. It’s a lesson we learned on our flight inside Sam’s Club. In certain events, the distraction factor can be a major benefit of a law enforcement drone flight.
