Springfield Fire Department Receives Drone

Springfield, MO — (11/17/2017) After an incident back in 2015 left the Springfield Fire Department’s hands tied, Scott Crabtree of Westside Stone came to the rescue. After the incident, it became apparent that an aerial based platform would be more effective as compared to the Department’s ground based platforms. Two years later, Crabtree donated a Phantom 4 Quadcopter drone to SFD.

The drone, valued at approximately $1,200, will be used primarily by the SFD Bomb Squad or in support of special operations such as flood rescue and hazardous materials incidents. The official donation took place Friday morning at the Museum of the Springfield Fire Department Headquarters, inside Historic City Hall.

Springfield City Council authorized the Department to accept the donation during its October 30th meeting. During the presentation, Crabtree will be on hand to officially present the drone to members of the Springfield Fire Department.
